A sick young woman, Mariam, returns to Burkina Faso after having left as a young child who was adopted and sent out of the country to South Africa, where she always felt alien. She returns as an ailing young adult to the land of her birth on a journey of self-discovery, to spend her last days in the land of her forefathers. She does not know the language, culture, or norms. She is on a quest to reconnect with her family and her roots. While trying to figure out how to get to her native village, she encounters and befriends a charismatic bike messenger/taxi driver, Moussa, who volunteers to take her South, claiming good knowledge of the country and the exact place of her village. A city slicker bike messenger, Moussa, is living a fast-paced life in the city. His life is lonely as the debt is building up, and he is estranged from his family living in a remote village. Outwardly Moussa seems in control, hiding behind his charm, charisma and style. Moussa grows increasingly paranoid in Ouagadougou as his debts mount up. He needs to get out.
