Located between Volubilis and Meknes, the shrine of Moulay Idriss the First, founder of the Islamic Kingdom of Morocco, is the site of one of the most important religious pilgrimages. The Sufi Brotherhood of the Alamiyines inaugurates the ceremonies with the khamra that leads the followers through more and more breathless phases to an ecstatic state. During the following eight days, the brotherhoods, with their offerings, will walk in procession to the sanctuary, to the rhythm of the drums and the oboes.
