Call for projects

The third edition of the documentary film training workshop "Heritage and Colonial History" under the artistic direction of filmmaker Jean-Marie Teno will take place from 1 September to 3 December 2021 in Yaoundé, in partnership with the Goethe-Institut Kamerun and the Institut Français du Cameroun and the support of the Franco-German Cultural Fund. The theme of this edition is: "The colonial heritage up close - Cameroonian youth and its relationship with the past".

1) Objectives
The aim of this workshop is to train young Cameroonians in documentary filmmaking and to produce documentaries on the theme of heritage and colonial history.
For more than half a century, African documentary cinema has often been a tool for entertainment, manipulation and sometimes propaganda rather than an educational tool for the appropriation and preservation of the common good that is heritage on the one hand, and knowledge of the history on the other. Documentary film, the avant-garde of cinema, which often precedes and validates works of fiction of quality, finds in the encounter with heritage and history, the soil on which an original documentary practice can blossom, capable of
offering the world alternative visions.

2) General conditions of admission
- The subject of the writing is free, as long as it revolves around the theme of the workshop.
- Candidates must be Cameroonians aged between 21 and 40 by 29 May 2021. Applicants may only send one documentary subject.
- Applicants must be the authors of the proposed project. Any plagiarism will result in outright elimination.
- Each candidate must be available throughout the workshop and actively participate in the development of his/her film and in enriching the films of the other participants.
- Successful applicants will be provided with accommodation and food during the workshop within the limits of the organizers' capacity.
- Fluency in English for French speakers and French for English speakers is essential. The training will be conducted in both languages.
- The films are approximately 25 minutes long and are fully funded by the workshop, subject to availability.
- The films will be integrated into a collection that will be distributed as widely as possible in order to pursue the second objective of the training: popular education.
- The films will be presented during a public screening in 2021 in the presence of their authors.

Applications must be sent by e-mail only to the following address: jmteno34@gmail.com by 29 May 2021 at the latest.
